Privacy policy

Cool Metronome has no accounts and no server that stores anything about you. Your tempos and settings stay in your own browser. Advertising and analytics are the only third parties involved, and both are described in full below.

Last updated

The short version

  • No account, ever. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile to create.
  • Your settings never leave your device. Tempos, setlists and theme are stored by your browser, not by us.
  • Analytics collects no personal data and sets no cookies.
  • Ads are served by Google, which does use cookies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked first.

What stays on your device

The metronome saves your preferences using your browser's local storage. This is not a cookie and is never transmitted anywhere — it is written to your device and read back by the page on your next visit. Three items are stored:

  • cm.state.v1 Your current tempo, time signature, subdivision, accent pattern, click sound and volume levels.
  • cm.setlist.v1 Any saved setlist entries, with the name you gave each one.
  • cm.theme Whether you chose the dark or light theme.

Because this lives in your browser, it is per-device and per-browser. Clearing your browsing data, using private browsing, or switching to another device will not carry it over — and we cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.

Analytics

This site uses Umami, running on our own hosting rather than a third-party analytics network. It sets no cookies, collects no personal data, and does not track visitors across other websites. What it records is aggregate: which pages were viewed, roughly where in the world traffic came from, the referring site, and general device and browser type. None of it identifies you, and none of it is sold or shared.

Advertising

Cool Metronome is free and is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense.

  • Google uses cookies to serve ads Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits. You can turn personalised advertising off at My Ad Center, or opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info and Your Online Choices.
  • Consent in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland If you are in one of those regions, you are shown a consent message before any personalised advertising cookie is set, and you can accept, refuse, or choose in detail. You can change your answer at any time through that same message.

Google's own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Hosting

The site is static and hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes the requests your browser makes in order to serve the page, which involves handling your IP address. We do not use this for analytics or build any profile from it.

Children

Cool Metronome is a practice tool with no account system and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Clearing your data

Everything this site stores about you is in your own browser, so you control it directly. Clearing site data for coolmetronome.com in your browser settings removes your saved tempos, setlists and theme immediately and permanently. Advertising cookies set by Google are cleared the same way, and can also be managed through the links in the advertising section above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. The site is open about what it does; if a future feature ever collects something new, it will be described here before it ships.
